Subject: remaining jobs before implementation of PhyloCode
T. Mike Keesey asked: >As a >highly interested outsider, I'd like to know a) What else is there left to >do before PhyloCode is implemented, and b) What is being done now? > >For a) I know there are some things like writing the section addressing >species, etc. > The most time-consuming job that remains to be done before the PhyloCode is implemented is preparation of the companion volume with phylogenetic definitions of widely used names. Two other large tasks are development of the registration system and rules for species names. There are also some proposed changes in specific rules for clade names, some of them coming from participants on this listserver, that will have to be considered. Progress has been frustratingly slow, in large part because the people who were most heavily involved with the development of the current draft of the PhyloCode have a lot of other responsibilities and commitments. There is discussion of organizing another workshop, possibly this summer. After this workshop, we should have a clearer idea about the timetable for implementation of the code. Phil Philip D.
