Dear colleagues,

All participants in the First International=20
Phylogenetic Nomenclature Meeting are encouraged=20
to participate in the Business Meeting (that will=20
take place on Thursday, July 8), at which the=20
Society for Phylogenetic Nomenclature will be=20
inaugurated. Critical items of business include=20
ratification of the Bylaws and election of the=20
first officers and Council of our new society=20
(SPN).

Bylaws are currently being drafted by Phil=20
Cantino. After review by several other members=20
of the PhyloCode Advisory Group, the Bylaws will=20
be emailed to all registered participants. There=20
will be an opportunity at the Business Meeting to=20
propose and discuss modifications of the Bylaws=20
before voting on their adoption.

In preparation for the election of the first=20
officers and Council of the Society, I hereby=20
request nominations for President, Secretary,=20
Treasurer, and 6 members-at-large of Council.=20
Anyone who plans to participate in the First=20
International Phylogenetic Nomenclature Meeting=20
or to join the Society is eligible to nominate=20
candidates. Nominations should specify which=20
position is intended for the nominee. Each=20
person may nominate a candidate for President,=20
Secretary, Treasurer, and up to three=20
members-at-large (up to six names altogether).=20
Nominations must be e-mailed to Tom Artois=20
(e-mail: tom.artois@luc.ac.be) no later than June=20
10. After this date, nominees will be contacted.=20
Biographical sketches of those nominees who are=20
willing to serve will be distributed to=20
participants at or before the Paris meeting.

PLEASE SEND NOMINATIONS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DEADLINE: JUNE 10.

Sincerely,

Michel Laurin
